In Car Interface Concept Mercedes Hyperscreen

Designing a new innovative in-car infotainment experience with a high-end user experience and luxurious visuals.

About this project

This task was part of the Assessment Center of Mercedes Benz. The challenge was to design a new innovative in car infotainment concept for the MBUX Hyperscreen, which should aim for an intuitive user experience and at the same time it has to visually match the luxurious and progressive appearance of the Mercedes Benz interior design.

At the end I got the job but decided to go to my current employer. Still learned a lot about HMI and designing for in car experiences where tangible visual concepts are on a complete new leve!.

First things first

The Approach

To achieve the desired result, I had to must seamlessly integrate cutting-edge user experience with aesthetics that exude opulence.

  1. User-Centric Design: The infotainment system should prioritize user experience. This means intuitive interfaces, voice controls, and minimal distractions while driving. Every feature should be designed to enhance the driver's and passengers' experience.
  2. High-Quality Visuals: Luxury demands top-tier visuals. High-resolution displays, vibrant colors, and a sleek, uncluttered design are essential. The graphics and animations should be visually stunning without overwhelming the user.
  3. Customization: Luxury is about personalization. Offering various themes, color schemes, and layouts can allow users to tailor the infotainment system to their preferences, creating a sense of exclusivity.
  4. Seamless Connectivity: High-end users often have multiple devices. Ensuring seamless connectivity with smartphones, smartwatches, and other gadgets is crucial. This includes support for both Android and iOS devices.
  5. Integration with Vehicle Systems: Luxury cars often have advanced features like adaptive cruise control, self-parking, and more. The infotainment system should seamlessly integrate with these systems for a cohesive driving experience.
  6. Safety and Legal Considerations: While providing a high-end experience, safety should never be compromised. The system should adhere to regulations regarding distracted driving and prioritize safety features, such as voice commands and hands-free operation.
Reduced to the Essentials

Drivers View

While the whole infotainment system can be very intimidating, the drivers view is reduced to the minimum. Distraction is one of the main reasons for car accidents, that's why the MBUX Dashboard just displays a minimal amount of necessary information bits.

Learnings

Summary

In summary, designing a luxurious in-car infotainment system requires a delicate balance between cutting-edge technology and impeccable aesthetics. Prioritizing user experience, performance and safety while offering customization and seamless connectivity is essential to creating an innovative and high-end infotainment experience.

Im excited to see the future of in car entertainment. It is set to be more connected, personalized, immersive, and safer than ever before.
